Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017 offers users a beautifully de-cluttered interface and true outlook integration along with a plethora of functional improvements!
Notifications have been added to all Clients. These notifications allow the developer to provide notifications on the top of the page to give customized warnings for example. These notifications are used in 2017 for example to show a customer credit warning.
NEW MEDIA FIELD TYPE
Fields on database tables can now be created with a field type of Media or Media Set (to show multiple media at the same time). This is field type is used, for example, to hold pictures on the Item table and can contain multiple pictures if required.
This is a new field property. When set, a promoted action from the Action tab will only be shown on the Home Tab.
HIDE NOTES AND LINKS
The Notes and Links functions can be removed per application area.
The Sync of Contacts related to customer, vendor or employee are sync’d via Exchange Web Services e.g. a user can edit the Customer in Outlook and the data is updated in NAV. User can edit the Customer in NAV and is updated in Outlook.

What’s this? On a column in a list you can now right click and press ‘What’s this?’ and it will provide a description of the field.
ESC Key – ESC Key to exit a page is now supported in the Web Client. Using the backspace key is no longer supported.
Changing Role Centre – a user can now press My Settings to change their current Role Center without going to User Personalization.
F5 – now refreshes data and not the page (hurrah!)

'DOCUMENT NOT POSTED, LEAVE?' WARNING
When closing a document that can be posted, a confirmation page is opened asking for confirmation that you want to close the page. This can be turned on/off using the ‘Warn about unposted documents’ on the ‘My Settings’ page.
The Item information can be extended by adding your own Item Attributes. Item Attributes can differ for different item types for example. Items can be filtered based on attribute value using a specific Item Attribute filter mechanism.
BALANCING AMOUNT SUGGESTION IN JOURNALS
Users can have the system suggest an amount that will balance out a journal. The feature is set up per general journal batch.
ACCOUNT CATEGORY AND SUB CATEGORIES
G/L Accounts can now be classified into a hierarchy using account category and sub category.
The default information e.g. VAT Posting group, Inventory posting group, is no longer defaulted from Item Category. The Item Template is used for defaulting information.
ITEM CATEGORY HIERARCHY
A hierarchy of item categories can now be created by selecting an existing one in the parent category field in the item category.
ALTERNATIVE SHIP-TO ADDRESS
You can now enter alternate ship-to addresses on sales quotes, orders, and invoices.
PAYMENT REC JOURNAL
Automatic application algorithm supports applying payments to customer ledger entries, vendor ledger entries, as well as to bank account ledger entries. Payment Rec Journal now has two post actions, ‘Post Payments and Reconcile Bank Account’ and ‘Post Payments Only’.
GENERAL USABILITY IMPROVEMENTS!
Basic Customer, Item and Vendor cards are included in the general tidying and usability improvements. The tabs and visibility of most relevant fields are improved for easier use.
CREATING NEW APPROVAL WORKFLOW
A new workflow questionnaire has been added to make the process of creating new workflows easier.
PayPal Payments Standard for Dynamics NAV delivered as an extension that adds a PayPal payment link into sales documents so customers’ invoices can pay via a PayPal link.

The user can now change their role centre from “My Settings”
An “Application Area” is set on Page controls (e.g. buttons) and Menu Suite items. The user can select which areas should be active in her UI by setting the values in “My Settings”. Controls that are tagged with an Application Area but not selected are removed from the User Interface.
In the Company Information window, you can define fields and actions to show in the User Interface by selecting a value in the Experience field. Each experience is defined by a combination of application areas e.g. Basic, Basic with Relationship Management and Suite.
