As two new worlds collide; the future of mobilising staff and giving wider access to the most valuable business asset (its information!), the future and the present look rather exciting...
For a long time mobile applications in an ERP context have been largely confined to areas such as Warehouse Management and possibly shop floor data collection.
In these areas, options have been limited in the NAV world to either a couple of Dynamics NAV add-ons that have bespoke functionality developed into the handheld device for specific tasks e.g. Picking, Put Away. Or probably the most popular route was to develop Dynamics NAV mini-forms (in the Classic Client) and using Dynamics NAV online with cleverly designed big button screens. We have all done the latter and often to good effect, however as two new worlds collide the future of mobilising staff and giving wider access to the most valuable business asset, its information, the future and indeed the present, looks exciting.
The two worlds in this context are the massive explosion of mobile devices in their varied forms. Whether it’s the iPhone, iPad, Android tablet, Android phone or even the ubiquitous Windows phone and Surface; and the opening of the Dynamics NAV data and logic layer with the introduction of Web Service technology.
Mobilisation will change the way businesses perceive their NAV system.
We saw an initial influx of apps to gain access to NAV information, we tried quite a few and found as is often the case, the first attempts were good but not ground breaking. When we found MobileNAV, we found a way to deploy Dynamics NAV to end-users - one that we truly believe will be the start of an ERP revolution.
Dynamics NAV users are using information and business logic from their mobile device in a much more dynamic way. Think about how you now use email - once it was something you did when you sat at a desk, whether at home or at work, but now we all email in a myriad of ways.
Yes ok, we still use our desktop email but many of us check and respond to emailed business related activities whilst on our tablets, whilst waiting for the train or sat waiting for someone at a restaurant... and rather too many whilst actually eating dinner at a restaurant!
This is the beginning of MobileNAV, whilst out and about for a sales person or manager of a business. Here starts the use of Dynamics NAV as a great tool for designing new ways to record business information and provide the necessary support for users regardless of their location. Mobilisation will change the way businesses perceive their NAV system.
