First off – what’s the difference between Dynamics 365 and Dynamics NAV?
There’s been a lot of hype around Dynamics 365 but also quite a lot of confusion, which isn’t really necessary because Dynamics 365 Business Edition and Dynamics NAV are basically the same system!
In a nutshell the main difference is that Dynamics 365 BE is hosted on a shared cloud hosted system whereas Dynamics NAV is available either on premise or on a private cloud hosted system. Other than that, they are based on the same platform and offer the same functionality!
If I use NAV can I change over to Dynamics 365 BE?
Simple answer: Yes. Because Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 are based on the same platform they share all the benefits of the new extensibility, the O365 foundation and the roadmap stretching out in to our digital future. This means that if you are currently using NAV on prem or in your private cloud and you decide later on that the shared cloud or the subscription option are a better fit for you it’s an easy migration across to Dynamics 365.
