IT Support Engineer

The Job:

The successful applicant will work within the IT team responsible for supporting and maintaining The NAV People's IT systems locally in Burghclere, Derby and Manchester and all cloud services on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Office 365.

The Role Overview:

You’ll be responsible for day to day upkeep of the Office 365, desktop and Virtual Machine test environments and a go-to for any technical issues/questions from the users including customer projects. The primary focus of your role is supporting all end users which includes a broad range of expectations from laptop provisioning to server monitoring. You’ll be working directly with a senior infrastructure engineer who will guide and train the required skills. Support and IT tasks will be provided by the Head of IT and other members of the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • 1st and 2nd line technical support for 130+ employees across 3-4 sites (Desktop and Server)

    • Logging and keeping all IT tickets up-to-date on Zendesk
    • Investigation and fault finding/problem solving
    • Evaluate user needs and system functionality and ensuring that IT facilities meet these needs
    • Offer users support and advice on using new software deployments
    • Provide SSL VPN access to users as required
    • Installation/deployment of agreed software to users and train users as required
  • Provision new laptops for employees and perform data transfer where necessary
  • Configuration of new user accounts in Azure, Office 365, Active Directory & AzureAD
  • Configuration of users and permissions in Azure, Active Directory, SQL and all other third party services
  • Maintenance and supporting users of HyperV sandbox virtual machines built and hosted in-house
  • Patching, supporting AP issues/deployment across multiple VLANs
  • Deploying new phones and groups
  • Printing/scanning and photocopy environments
  • Monitor all services on a regular basis, focusing on business critical systems and environments.
    • Event viewers (Application/Service errors, Failed login attempts)
    • Security and Updates, ensure all updates have been applied.
    • Anti-Virus reports
    • Printer reports according to maintenance plans
  • Assist with Internal IT network changes, patching of network and phones.
  • Monitoring backups based on compliance requirements. Includes Cloud Services and Virtual Machines.
  • Test and assess new software considered for business use, provide feedback and recommend accordingly.
  • Ownership of the asset tracking system to ensure all devices are tracked and up to date.
  • Purchasing of IT equipment into the business in line with purchase ordering processes.
  • Managing relationships with third party providers as required.
  • Undertake various IT Projects within the business.

We are looking for the right person with excellent people skills, passionate about all things IT related and has a real “give it a go” attitude. You’ll need to be happy to work with, care for and support all of the users within the business. Not all responsibilities require prior experience as these can be trained as required.
